Getting set up
Most passports get 90 days on arrival, extendable to 180 days per year, and Colombia's digital nomad visa covers longer stays with proof of income. Furnished apartments are easy to find monthly; Laureles is cheaper and more local than El Poblado.
Working from here
Fibre internet is genuinely fast and cheap. Selina, Tinkko and Global Working are solid coworking options, and the café scene in Provenza is laptop-friendly before lunch. Colombia is UTC-5, so you're in sync with New York — the reason so many US remote workers base here.
Safety and health
The phrase locals use is no dar papaya — don't give anyone an opportunity. Keep your phone away on the street, use Uber or DiDi at night instead of walking, never accept drinks from strangers, and stick to Poblado, Laureles, Envigado and Sabaneta until you know the city. Private healthcare is excellent and inexpensive.
Making friends
Spanish exchanges, salsa classes and Saturday hikes in the hills. The community turns over fast, so people are open — a message on the radar is completely normal here.
